1st Annual SAR-BQ
It is time to start some traditions here at SAR. Or maybe resurrect some old ones. The first on the agenda is to have a BBQ, or rather a SAR-BQ like only SAR can have. Do we have all the items needed to BBQ? No but like anything in SAR land, we make due. Jeff loaded a nice BBQ onto his truck and towed it to the SAR-BQ. Everyone bringing food, with only one run to the store, what else do we need? ROCK BAND! Should we start a new SAR band? Hmmm not sure that we are there yet, but it sure was fun. I am looking forward to next years SAR-BQ and hope that more members are able to come. They missed out that is for sure! Take care. Enjoy the pics...

Some History on Skagit SAR
Skagit County Explorer Search and Rescue was born in 1966 with the creation of the Skagit County Search and Rescue Council. The SAR Council was created to coordinate Search and Rescue efforts in and around Skagit county. Since 1966, ESAR has grown from a loosely organized group of volunteers to a dedicated, well trained unit, committed to saving lives. Over the years, our unit has fluctuated in its active membership. Since 1966 we have grown from a mere skeleton crew to over 100 active personnel, making our unit the single largest rescue unit in all of Skagit county. Over the years, we have also grown with technology, moving from working exclusively with paper maps and compasses to the integration of computerized mapping programs and the use of GPS. In 2004 we also added a new branch to our unit. The creation of the Special Operations Branch. Inside the new Special Operations Branch we now have our Special Rescue Team or SRT. This branch will allow members to expand their current knowledge and take their training to the next level. Through all of our changes our goals have never changed and our focus has become clearer.
We Serve, so others may live.

Clear lake Splashtacular 8/6/09
SAR had a great time helping today at the Kids Day Splashtacular at Clear Lake. The weather was a bit overcast so we didn't have the turn out that we would've liked to, but....next year! We brought a throw bag and "saved" some kids. We also demonstrated how to save a person in the water by Nate getting into a suit and playing in the water. The rest of the guys decided that wasn't such a bad idea, even though they had no suit.
Practice water safety always!

Now is a great time to hike
For SAR everytime is a great time to hike. If you are headed out to take advantage or this fantastic weather please remember these tips. Be prepared, pack for the weather, always have snacks and water, and tell a friend where you are headed and expected time to return. BE SMART, HIKE SMART. Otherwise you might get to meet Skagit SAR sooner than you'd hoped to. Here is a trail system well known to SAR. Enjoy the maps, brought to you by www.pnt.org. Blanchard Mountain trails.

A few photos...
Skagit ESAR!
I have really enjoyed every aspect of Search and Rescue. I think the best part is knowing that we are a group of volunteers that give freely of our time to help others. "We serve so others may live" is a summary of how we feel in relation to the pride we take in our training and our service for the community.
